Once you locate a chimpanzee family, you are granted exactly one hour to sit quietly and observe these highly intelligent apes up close—an encounter you will remember for a lifetime.

2. Hiking to Kakombe and Mkenke Waterfalls

Beyond primate tracking, the park offers magnificent hiking trails. A popular trek leads deep into the forest to the spectacular Kakombe Waterfall. Best Time to Visit

To maximize your chances of a successful and comfortable chimpanzee trek, timing your visit is key:

• Dry Season (May to October): This is the optimal time for chimpanzee trekking. The forest trails are dry and much easier to navigate. Because water is scarce higher up the mountains, the chimpanzees tend to forage lower down the slopes, making them easier to locate.

• Green Season (November to April): The rains transform the forest into an incredibly lush, emerald paradise, and the waterfalls flow at maximum capacity. However, the steep trails can become slippery, and the chimpanzees often roam higher up the mountains to feed, requiring a more strenuous hike.
