Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge

Comprehensive Safari Accommodation Guide

Perched high on the eastern rim of the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge offers some of the most expansive and dramatic sunset views across the entire volcanic caldera. Designed around traditional African rondavel architecture with soaring conical roofs and grand timbered interiors, this classic lodge combines highland warmth with prime access to Northern Tanzania's wildlife.

Because of its unique positioning on the eastern side of the rim, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge provides guests with direct access to the crater floor via the Lemala descent road—allowing Gnade Safaris guests to enter the crater quickly and avoid the heavier morning traffic on the main southern gates.

Architecture & Lodge Concept

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge was constructed to capture the grand scale of the surrounding highlands. The main lodge building features soaring, double-volume ceilings, hand-carved wooden pillars, local stone hearths, and glass walls offering panoramic views of the crater.

At the center of the main lounge stands a massive, double-sided stone fireplace that serves as a warm social hub during chilly highland evenings. Outside, elevated wooden decks and stone terraces lead down to an outdoor swimming pool situated right on the crater edge.

Accommodations & Suite Configurations

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge features 97 spacious suites housed in traditional circular rondavel structures arranged along the crater rim.

Suite Configurations

  • Standard Crater-View Suites: Exceptionally spacious guest suites featuring two queen-size beds draped in mosquito netting. Each suite includes an enclosed, glass-fronted solarium (sun lounge) fitted with comfortable rocking chairs looking directly out over the crater floor.

  • Interconnecting Family Suites: Adjoining suite options designed for families or small travel groups requiring private layout flexibility and shared lounge space.

  • Accessible Suites: Select ground-floor suites modified with ramp access and specialized bathroom fittings for guests with reduced mobility.

In-Suite Amenities
