• Whale Watching Season (July to November): The optimal window to witness migrating humpback whales passing through the deep waters just outside the bay.

• Green Season (November to May): While the heavy rains can reduce diving visibility and make road access to Mtwara more challenging, this period is exceptional for birdwatchers. The park is an "Important Bird Area," and the estuary fills with migratory shorebirds, including large flocks of the unique crab-plover.
